The Beginning…

Beginnings

Gotta love the beginnings of a new project.  There is always so much hope and excitement.  There is actually something to write about because things start happening little by little until they are set in stone, at which point the news starts to die down a bit.

The Goal

The goal of Toasters in Love is to just have a little fun doing something we enjoy doing.  Not expecting to sell a million records (would be ecstatic to sell a hundred).  My one goal is to have something I created on vinyl.

The EP

Keith recorded demos for four songs, which can all be heard on the Facebook page.  The plan is to turn these into full-band songs (a bassist and drummer have already been tagged).  Will need to figure out how the real recording will work and tweak the songs as needed.

Email

Want to get in touch with the band or interested in booking a show – email: toastersinlove2011@gmail.com

If you remember what is was like to write letters, we can also be reached the old-fashioned way by writing to:  Toasters in Love. PO Box 45526.  Westlake, OH  44145

Book

Keith just finished reading License to Pawn by Rick Harrison (with Tim Keown), which is about Rick Harrison and the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, which is the subject of Keith’s favorite television show – Pawn Stars.  I think it would be a good book whether or not you are familiar with the television show.  I think it is a great book for those of us who love the show.  The cool is that it could have been a book completely about Rick and the shop, but there are chapters written by Old Man, Big Hoss, and Chumlee.  I thought it was really cool that they got to handle their own chapters in the book instead of learning about them solely through Rick’s eyes.  He sees all types of people at all stages of their lives – the ups and the downs.  Great perspective on how us crazy humans are.  $23.99 – Hyperion (probably get it discounted through Amazon or may be able to find it at a secondhand shop by now).  Mine is a first edition.  It also has first edition scribbles by Drew all over it.

Influences

For those of you who do not know, The Dead Milkmen have been playing here and there and had released a new album earlier this year.  It’s one of their best.  You can get it from their website or (I believe) iTunes and Amazon.  I still need to pick up the CD but bought the digital tracks.  The album is called The King in Yellow and is just amazing.  Hoping they swing through Cleveland (I know a band who would absolutely love to open for them…).

EP and Live Shows?

EP

tape recorder 1I have narrowed down the song listing to four songs to be recorded for an EP to be released in late 2011/early 2012.  In the next couple weeks, I will be recording the demos of the four songs and passing them off to some musicians who will hopefully help me flesh out the songs.  I think three of the songs are ready to go (been playing them for awhile), but the fourth is one I just recently written and recorded and need to work on the ending (the first demo of this song is on the Toasters in Love Facebook page in its unfinished state – appropriately titled Demo 001).  Subject matter covers Trains, Love, Rain, and Red Potatoes.

Shows???

We’ll see.  Hopefully, I can get some good demos of what a live performance might be like – thinking it may just be solo acoustic thing right now.  May also try to recruit some locals for a live band…may be a duo, trio, quartet…may be solo.  Not sure about that yet.  The live show will be a mix of new Toasters in Love songs, maybe a couple covers, and also some Pudding & Fruit songs.  I am looking forward to getting back on stage at some point (if you need an opening act or are booking any shows…I’m probably free).  If solo acoustic works for what you are putting together, then I’m ready now…

Facebook

“Like” Toasters in Love on Facebook for demos and any little tidbits of information I may put up there.
